Alum to spearhead East Africa health initiative

Caroline Kusi, who earned her BA in Sociology from Lehigh in 2011, has accepted a new position--in Rwanda!

Caroline reports: "I will serve as the East Africa Coordinator for UC San Francisco's Preterm Birth Initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for 5 years. I will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, helping them to begin their work on the ground. The grant includes Rwanda (group antenatal care model testing), Uganda, and Kenya (implementing an intervention package to address intrapartum and immediate postnatal care). I will have 80% travel to Kenya and Uganda. This involves overseeing the organization of data collection, and liaising with ministries of health and community facilities."

After graduating from Lehigh, Caroline earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan. She later went to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
