A teaching apprenticeship is intended to give you experience in teaching under the guidance of an experienced professor. Specifics will vary according to the course, but you would typically do some combination of helping the professor prepare course materials, supervised lecturing, leading discussion, assisting with making up and evaluating written assignments, and meeting individually with students.
There are minimum requirements for taking on a teaching apprenticeship: you need to have successfully completed the course you want to work in yourself as a student, have an overall GPA of 2.80 or better, a major GPA of 3.3 or better, at have taken at least one other course in the same field as the one in which you want to work.
If you meet these requirements, the next step is to speak to the instructor of a course you want to work in for your teaching apprenticeship. You will need to come to an explicit written agreement about what you will do in the course, and how your own work as a teaching apprentice will be evaluated. Your work as an apprentice should total approximately 50 hours of effort per credit, on average, over the course of the semester.
You then need to submit the written agreement along with the CAS AT Contract application form. Once the Dean’s Office has approved your application, they will automatically register you for the teaching apprenticeship course (SOC300 or ANTH300).
